Fishing heating up in Tampa Bay and St Pete

The mouth of Tampa Bay around Fort DeSoto area and St Pete Beach areas are seeing an increase in fishing action this week. The last back to back cold fronts we had took the water temperature down 15 degrees to 55 but this weeks 80 degree plus days have already brought it back to 65. Earlier in the week we couldn’t buy a strike and then the fish were way more cooperative. The mackerel we saw were definitely bigger and more plentiful that is until the dolphin showed up and ruined the party. There are redfish starting to congregate but high tides make these fish a little easier to target since they’ll be less spooky when approached by boat. It’s been difficult to get up to these fish on these low tides lately unless you’re kayaking or wade fishing. I’ll be fishing St Pete beach this weekend to see if the nearshore fishing has gotten into full swing. Out there we can expect spanish and king mackerel, grouper, flounder, snapper, key west grunt, cobia, shark, bonita, and more.

Tight lines!
