Fishing Tampa

Well this last cold front didn’t get rid of the good fishing we’ve been having. The baitfish are still in the usual areas and we were using them live and cut to catch a good share of seatrout, spanish mackerel, grouper, and snook while fishing Tampa Bay. This next front looks to be rather mild but the wind is forecasted to get up to 35mph which is pretty nasty. The water color will turn to its usual coffee color and will take a couple days to regain its clarity. I’m just about to the point of the year where I’ll start using shrimp more while fishing Tampa Bay area flats. The fish won’t really care to chase down baitfish as much once the water temp dips to the low 60′s and live shrimp are refused by few fish since they’re just to easy to eat. Whether fishing them under a cork or fishing them freelined with a split shot in shallow water potholes high up on the top of a flat they’ll get the job done.

Tight lines and happy holidays!
