Fishing Charters Tampa
This week we focused on catching sea trout, spanish mackerel, sheepshead, bluefish, and huge black drum while on my fishing charters Tampa Bay area. The baitfish are showing on the shallow flats edges that are near areas with good current. The baits are still on the small side but easily available. Fishing Tampa Bay area flats with deeper grass areas have produced non stop action on spanish mackerel and bluefish. These fish are eating the baits as fast as I can get them on the hook and in the water! I’ve actually had these fish coming up to the side of the boat eating our baits without casting…just leaving the bait dangling in the water with 3-4 ft. of line out while preparing to cast. That’s aggressive!
We’ve got another cold front coming to the Tampa Bay area this weekend. It looks so far to be mild and shouldn’t affect the fishing much. The water temp yesterday as I was putting the boat on the lift was just a hair under 72. As it stays around that temp my inshore fishing charters will see more snook fishing and redfish trips as these fish return in numbers to the flats looking to eat baitfish that have been a little scarce during the winter. I’ve already been seeing these fish up around the islands but not in the numbers that’ll be there in March.
Nearshore fishing St. Pete Beach will fire up soon also seeing catches of spanish and king mackerel, grouper, snapper, flounder, cobia, and sharks! This is exciting fishing sitting in one spot and catching a half a dozen species or more in one spot.
