Fishing Tampa Bay

Redfish schools have been the highlight lately with many showing up in they’re usual places for this time of year around barrier islands and grassflats. We’ve been able to fish them on the days of little boat traffic like the weekdays and have good success. The spanish mackerel are still thick along areas of bait and a lot of moving water. Also, while fishing Tampa Bay the sharks have been keeping us busy using medium tackle and fresh dead bait on the bottom near the areas of concentrated mackerel and other fish. I’ve been doing well on seatrout early and late in the day. Soon as the water starts to cool a little during fall we’ll be able to fish them all day long predictably. Tarpon fishing in Tampa Bay remains hit and miss with most of my trips focusing on the resident smaller fish.
