Snook fishing still strong in Tampa Bay
Snook became the target after a slow start on the beaches for spanish and king mackerel. We caught spanish mackerel off St. Pete Beach but it was a slow bite and we were looking for more. The decision was made to move inshore so we headed over to the south side of Tampa Bay to fish the natural mangrove shorelines and glad we did. The water temp in the bay was 72 degrees and it hasn’t slowed the snook. It wasn’t a rock star snook bite but we caught a handful of fish casting tight to the shoreline with scaled sardines. We also looked for redfish and came up with single one off an oyster bar. Bigger seatrout are getting more aggressive with the cooler water temps and we caught two or three to twenty inches. As usual, the ladyfish, bluefish, and jack crevalle are still present and filling in the gaps between targeted species to keep the rods bent.
